‘The Opposition does not deserve the people’s trust’, says Robert Abela

'The Opposition does not deserve the people's trust', says Robert Abela
Mar 22 2022 Share

Beginning his address by thanking the people of Paola for their warm welcome, Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that it is imperative that Labour is trusted once again on Saturday in order to renew Malta together.

“That which he have achieved until today is only the pediment on which we must build our future,” the Labour leader stated, before arguing the strength of his party’s proposals. He went on to argue that the Opposition does not deserve the people’s trust because it has already shown that it cannot be trusted during these five years.

He told the people not to vote Labour solely because they cannot trust the Nationalist Party, but because the Labour Party will ensure a better Malta for younger generations to come.

“A vote for the Labour Party on Saturday, is a guarantee for all children, regardless of where they come from.”

With regards to proposals, he highlighted the Labour Party’s pledge of €700 million euro over a period of seven years, also shining a light on particular proposals such as the €10,000 grant over 10 years for first time buyers and decrease in taxes.

Abela asked that voters cast their votes early, while [the Labour Party] will continue to convince others on ‘a choice for the future’, a choice which the Prime Minister argued is clear.

“Robert Abela puts himself first”; Bernard Grech addresses PN rally in Gozo

Mar 22 2022 Share

At a PN rally in Gozo this evening, Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech started his his address by stating that he always feels home in Gozo, thanks to the unique welcoming nature of the Gozitan people.

Starting his discourse on a light note, he said that he recently met with an energetic 97-year-old woman from Gozo, praising the generations before us for the effort made to preserve and maintain that which we live in today. Discussing electoral proposals, Grech stated that “[the PN] didn’t have to copy anyone’s proposals, while others left you waiting and presented you copied or recycled proposals.”

With regards to Malta’s Prime Minister, he stated that Robert Abela only thinks of himself – going on to discuss Abela’s recent ODZ contract, with Grech stating that the permit “never should have been granted.” “Robert Abela puts himself first, and that’s why he did not want to halt the citizenship scheme – selling to Russian oligarchs – and that’s why it was the European Union who had to put a stop to his actions,” the PN leader stated. Grech went on to mention how Abela used Żejtun villa to accommodate Russia passport hopefuls, also echoing his previous allegations of Abela being a ‘serial tax evader’.

Grech then commented on Nationalist Party’s 10 economic sectors, highlighting the party’s hopes to develop industries in Gozo – promising better opportunities, better pay and the restoration of dignity in their lives. He discussed other proposals related to Gozo, such as the payment of workers from the moment they board the ferry to ensure just pay and treatment.

Zelenskyy vows not to join NATO in exchange for Russian ceasefire

Zelenskyy vows not to join NATO in exchange for Russian ceasefire
Mar 22 2022 Share

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he is willing to compromise in exchange for a Russian ceasefire. This comes after he expressed doubts as to whether Putin intends to stop the war.

Zelenskyy was addressing an interview on Monday 21st March, in which he revealed that he would be willing to not seek NATO membership.

‘It’s a compromise for everyone: for the West, which doesn’t know what to do with us with regard to NATO, for Ukraine, which wants security guarantees, and for Russia, which doesn’t want further NATO expansion’ he said.

The Ukrainian president said that Kyiv will be willing to discuss the status of Crimea as well as the eastern Donbas region which is held by Russian-backed separatists. This follows a message by Zelenskyy to Putin saying ‘it’s time to talk.’

‘Negotiations about peace, about security for us in Ukraine, should be substantial, fair and without delays’ he said. ‘This is the only chance, the only chance for Russia to reduce the harm from its own mistakes.’

Zelenskyy said that it is time to meet and restore territorial integrity for Ukraine as otherwise, it would take several generations to recover Russia’s losses. This also follows accusations by US president Biden that Russia is preparing for chemical and biological warfare in Ukraine.
