The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in Malta & Gozo unveiled its most prestigious awards for 2025 at its annual ceremony held on December 9, 2024, at The Xara Lodge. Recognising culinary excellence, these awards highlight the crème de la crème of Malta and Gozo’s dining scene, as voted by nearly 4,000 diners.

Taking centre stage was Risette, which dominated the awards by winning Best Food (sponsored by American Express) and Best Service (sponsored by Spiteri Catering), solidifying its status as the Top Overall Restaurant for 2025.

The award for Best Ambience went to the elegant de Mondion, while Verbena, Sole by Tarragon, and Al Sale were recognized for their dedication to local produce, winning Restaurant Most Dedicated to Supporting Local, Best Local Fish Restaurant, and Best Local Wine List, respectively.

Mamacita was named Best Newcomer (sponsored by Horeca), while Ta’ Tona earned the title of Most Mentioned in the Survey (sponsored by Bookia).

Other notable winners include Tal-Familja for Best Maltese Restaurant, Caviar & Bull for Most Popular for Business Entertainment, and Busy Bee as Favourite Café. The Aft Galley was praised for Best Value for Money, while Don Royale took home the award for Most Children-Friendly Restaurant.

Here Are The Best Chef and Most Promising Chef In Malta

At the annual Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in Malta and Gozo awards, two talented chefs were celebrated for their culinary achievements, earning the titles of Malta’s Best Chef and Most Promising Chef.

The Best Chef Award, sponsored by Pentole Agnelli and exclusively represented by The Catering Centre, was awarded to Sheldon Sammut.

Sammut, Head Chef and owner of Scala in Mdina, has nearly a decade of professional kitchen experience. His passion and expertise led him to establish Scala, a rising star in Malta’s restaurant scene.

Neil Peresso received the title of Most Promising Young Chef of the Year. Despite his young age, Peresso boasts extensive experience in both local and international kitchens.

He is also the founder of Neil’s Kitchen, a business specializing in handmade pasta and ravioli, delivered directly to customers’ homes.

CNN put Malta on their list of best places to go for Christmas!

Malta was named along 14 other countries which are some of the most popular destinations of the season such as; New York, England and Germany.  

They describe Malta as aRoman Catholic island in the Mediterranean Sea with a festive and spiritual vibe at Christmas, despite the fact that Malta is largely known for our sunny months and blue seas.

CNN states that traditions such as Maltese presepji, navity scenes and visiting Valletta are “an integral part of Christmas here”.

The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in Malta & Gozo has announced its top-rated establishments for 2025, following its annual awards ceremony on December 9, 2024, at The Xara Lodge.

Based on votes from nearly 4,000 diners who participated in the September 2024 survey, these awards celebrate culinary excellence across the islands. The guide recognizes the top 150 restaurants out of thousands, showcasing Malta and Gozo’s thriving food scene.

Taking the Top Overall Restaurant title is Risette, praised for its exceptional dining experience.

Other standout restaurants in the top 10 include de Mondion, known for its elegant fine dining, Rebekah’s, celebrated for its Mediterranean charm, and Sole by Tarragon, offering innovative cuisine.

Da Luigi, Galea’s Kitchen, and Ta’ Frenc also feature for their remarkable culinary achievements. Rounding out the list are Bastion Bar & Restaurant, Paranga, and Tal-Familja, each highly rated for their quality, ambiance, and service.
