“The Man With 1000 Kids” Sues Netflix Over False Accusations

Sep 5 2024 Share

Johnathan Meijer, a 43-year-old Dutch sperm donor and the subject of the Netflix documentary “The Man With 1000 Kids,” has announced plans to take legal action to have the show removed from the streaming platform. Meijer stated that he is going to court to protect donor children and their families from what he describes as “the media’s desire to turn this into a spectacle.”

Meijer denied claims made in the documentary that he fathered 3,000 children worldwide, insisting the actual number is 550. “Anything beyond that is speculation,” he added.

Last year, a Dutch court ordered Meijer to stop donating sperm or face financial penalties in a case brought by the child protection charity Stichting Donorkind, due to the high risk of incest. Under Dutch regulations, fertility clinics are limited to producing 25 children per donor, but Meijer bypassed these guidelines by donating to at least 11 different clinics across the Netherlands. He also donated to the Danish sperm bank Cryos, which distributes sperm to private clients and does not impose a limit on the number of children a donor can father.

The court also found that Meijer had misled people he contacted through his YouTube channel and other media about the actual number of children he had fathered.

While Meijer claimed he stopped donating in 2019, he said he made exceptions for families who had already used his sperm. “I provided these parents with something they couldn’t get from a clinic,” he said. “The government didn’t assist them either, as there has never been a campaign to portray sperm donors in a positive light.”

However, lawyers Gerard Spong and Peter Plasman believe Meijer’s lawsuit has “no chance of succeeding.” They argue that the documentary serves the public interest by informing potential parents about Meijer’s activities.

Rome Considering Introducing Tickets For Trevi Fountain

Sep 5 2024 Share

Roman tourism officials are considering implementing a paid ticket system with designated time slots to view the iconic Trevi Fountain, as part of efforts to address the city’s overtourism challenges.

Alessandro Onorato, the capital’s councillor for tourism and major events, told Corriere della Sera on Wednesday that the proposal aims to limit the number of visitors at the landmark, which frequently sees tourists behaving inappropriately.

“I would support exploring a new access system, limited and timed, with reservations: free for Romans and costing a symbolic euro for tourists,” Onorato said.

The issue of tourists disrespecting the Trevi Fountain is longstanding. Last year, Onorato sought assistance from the Italian government to prevent tourists from jumping into the historic monument.

Following the introduction of a €5 ticket for tourists visiting the Pantheon, Rome’s busiest landmark, it appears the Trevi Fountain may soon follow suit.

Massive ‘Shark Fin’ Spotted In Marsaskala’s St Thomas Bay

Massive ‘Shark Fin’ Spotted In Marsaskala’s St Thomas Bay

A video of what appears to be a massive shark fin in Marsaskala’s St Thomas Bay has gone viral, garnering nearly 30,000 views on TikTok within 24 hours. The footage, filmed yesterday afternoon, shows the fin-like object moving through the water near the shore, attracting widespread attention online.

However, the size of the “shark” and the calm reactions of nearby beachgoers suggest it was likely a prop for an upcoming production. The presence of a diver swimming casually next to the object further indicates the sighting was staged rather than a real shark encounter.

While the spectacle may have raised some initial concerns, no danger was present in the bay, and it appears to have been created for entertainment purposes.

The video continues to circulate widely on social media.  Did you see this shark in Marsaskala?
