The lighting of Hamis ix-Xirka has become synonymous with the village of Siġġiewi.

The process of creating these torches involves months of work and logistics, starting almost a year before the event.

Over the years, Siġġiewi has developed into a unique destination for thousands of Maltese and tourists on Hamis ix-Xirka, with this light serving as the center for this sublime night.

Quail spring hunting season begins next Monday

Apr 6 2023 Share

The Gozo Ministry has announced that the spring hunting season for quail will open next Monday 10th April.

A national quota has been set at 2,400 quails, with no individual quotas for hunters. Hunters will still have to immediately report every single quail killed as well as their hunting effort and will be allowed from two hours before sunrise until noon.

This comes after the government had a request for a prohibitory injunction in Court against it by BirdLife Malta. This was to prevent it from issuing the legal notice on hunting turtle doves, but, on Thursday, the government filed a reply to the warrant.
