Following massive anticipation, especially the somber passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the Crown has been released on Netflix.
The series chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II, starting off from before her official coronation through to her life in the modern age.
The latest instalment is set to cover the rather turbulent events of the 1990s. The royal family underwent various tribulations during this time period, from divorces to the death of Princess Diana as well as the fire at Windsor Castle.
In fact, the synopsis for this new season reads: ‘It’s a new decade, and the royal family are facing what may be their biggest challenge yet: proving their continued relevance in ‘90s Britain.’
The role of Elizabeth has been taken on by Imelda Staunton, with Jonathan Pryce portraying Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip. Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West will portray Diana and Prince Charles respectively.
Due to the series’ event being inspired by real-life occurrences, the show has been met with mixed reviews and critiques. However, it has managed to attract a new cohort of fans following the recent death of the real life Queen Elizabeth on September 8th.
