The ‘Call for Arts’ petition taking Malta by storm

The ‘Call for Arts’ petition taking Malta by storm
May 4 2021 Share

Following the closure of several artistic and performative industries and sectors, Jeremy Grech created the ‘This Is A Call For Arts’ petition which aims to create awareness and get the authorities to provide a tangible re-opening plan for the live arts. The petition has, as of the time of writing, already accumulated a whopping 1,094 signatures, with its aim of getting to 1,500 just within reach. Jeremy expressed his concern for the survival of the arts in Malta during these trying times eloquently;

‘Our voices remain silent. Our songs unheard, monologues unspoken, symphonies muted, canvases empty, dances static and our pages bare!’ The petition is a step towards giving artists the chance to plan their future, career and training. Stating that artists ‘trained for this profession, […] made sacrifices, […] a career out of it. […] Give us a well needed voice. We are listening.’

Vaccine rollout picking up pace throughout Europe

The Netherlands reopened alfresco hospitality with Belgians ignoring official advice and driving a short distance across the border to enjoy their neighbouring country’s freedom. According to Guardian graphics, Malta’s vaccination rollout is among the highest in Europe as it has vaccinated 76.9 persons out of every hundred. The Netherlands is, according to latest data, administering a jab every half a second to its population of 17.2 million.

Around 20% of the population in each EU country, with only a few exceptions such as Bulgaria and Croatia, have been vaccinated. Malta is leading the way in this sector as 52.43% of the country’s population has been vaccinated. A European Commission official stated that vaccination in the EU is increasing dramatically as the battle against COVID-19 continues.

The Quad Central is projected to achieve LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification from U.S. Green Building Council (‘USGBC’), laying the ground to make this not only one of Malta’s, but also one of Europe’s most sustainable developments. The Quad Central will be a true next-generation development, joining the ranks with some of Europe’s most iconic and ‘greenest’ buildings, including Frankfurt’s skyline-defining Messeturm and The Crystal in London.

Designed by leading architectural firm DeMicoli & Associates on behalf of The Quad Central, this extraordinary new development will set new standards for environmental sustainability in Malta. LEED® certification offers independent verification of the development’s green features, including design, construction, operations, and maintenance of a resource-efficient and high performing working space. These features not only reduce operational costs, but also ensure the greatest health benefits for building occupants and the wider environment.
