The Busker returned to Malta yesterday, Sunday 14th May, following their Eurovision experience in Liverpool.

Despite not qualifying for the final during the first semifinal last Tuesday, the boy group made quite the hit with the locals in the UK, managing to climb up music charts and land some gigs.

Upon their return, they were greeted by Culture Minister Owen Bonnici, who commended the group for their performance and their hard work in the run up to the competition.

The Busker themselves also took to social media, posting a heart-warming video captioned: ‘First day away from each other’. The video showed the boys waving goodbye to each other before Dav. Jr sat down on the sofa alone to embrace ‘the void’ of nothing his band mates alongside him.

However, they are already working on what is in store for their new chapter. ‘Tonight we rest, tomorrow we work’ they wrote.

A mixed bag of reactions for Love Island Malta

A mixed bag of reactions for Love Island Malta

Without a doubt, the episode premiere of Love Island Malta was the highlight of this weekend – and this of course came with a mixed bag of reactions all over local social media.

While some were absolutely loving the airing of this internationally beloved programme to our shores, others were not all too happy about it. Some, including some prominent local figures, even argued against it being aired on the national television station.

Among them were Jason Azzopardi and Jason Micallef, who both described the programme as ‘trash TV’.  ‘Imagine Rai, BBC, Deutsche Welle or TV5 airing this Trash TV. National broadcaster trash’ said the former.

Meanwhile, Micallef wrote:

‘PBS. In the weekend where for the second consecutive year the national broadcaster disappoints massively in its work to have our country at least pass through a semifinal of a festival, which is considered the Mecca of music (Eurovision), it allows for the most empty and shallow of productions to air, despite having its proper place on commercial TV instead of the national broadcaster, paid for by 100% of public tax.’

On the other hand however, some other local figures absolutely loved the programme, among them Valentina Rossi, who followed the programme via Instagram story updates.

She expressed how she absolutely loved the opening, and went on to say that the contestants are ‘real’, that some drama is already bubbling and that the group of guys she was watching with are absolutely hooked.

Yesterday evening saw the launch of the very first episode of Love Island Malta. But while many were tuning in to see the first official coupling of the show in the summery villa, many were reporting problems due to TVM Live crashing.

The website seemingly crashed due to the high number of viewers tuning in to watch the episode, with the official Love Island social media acknowledging the issue later on in the evening.

Writing on Instagram story, the page first thanked all those who tuned in to watch. ‘Unfortunately, we have been informed that due to the high numbers of online streaming viewership, people were unable to view the episode.’

‘We would like to express that although we do not have control over TVM’s online streaming, we will do our best to have the issue solved as soon as possible’, the statement ended.

Local social media also expressed its frustration at not being able to view the episode, indicating that many were in fact attempting to tune in to watch the first of its kind show on Maltese islands.

Did you tune in to Love Island Malta Episode 1? And what did you think?
