More Than 4,700 Vehicles Stopped In Over 170 Road Checks

During the Christmas and New Year period, police intensified traffic inspections across Malta, ensuring roads remained free of serious accidents.

Over ten days, from December 22 to New Year’s Eve, more than 170 road checks were conducted, during which over 4,700 vehicles were stopped, and over 400 fines issued.

Violations included driving without displaying a license, using mobile phones while driving, and failing to wear seatbelts. Speeding checks resulted in over 85 fines, while several vehicles were towed due to invalid licenses.

Breathalyzer tests identified 11 drivers over the legal alcohol limit, and police dogs conducted vehicle searches when reasonable suspicion arose.
In addition to enforcement, educational materials were distributed to promote responsible driving, including reminders not to drink and drive. Materials were placed on parked vehicles in various locations.

A Police Force spokesperson confirmed these inspections were conducted with Transport Malta’s support and emphasised that such efforts will continue throughout the year to ensure safer roads in Malta and Gozo.

The Police Force thanked the public for their cooperation, highlighting the collective achievement of a festive season without serious traffic incidents.

Over 60,000 People Attend Valletta new Year’s Eve Celebrations

More than 60,000 people attended New Year’s Eve celebrations in Valletta.

Large crowds, including thousands of tourists, gathered in St. George’s Square, the main streets of Valletta, and around the Grand Harbour to ring in the new year, 2025.

The major celebrations in Valletta featured a spectacular show in St. George’s Square with performances by local artists Shaun Farrugia, Ira Losco, and Red Electric, among others. The event peaked with a performance by world-renowned artist Cascada.

At midnight, fireworks illuminated the Grand Harbour. Large crowds gathered at various observation points around the harbour to witness the stunning display set against the beautiful backdrop of the Grand Harbour.

The event was hosted by local presenters Dorianne Mamo, Owen Bonnici, Keane Cutajar, and Taryn Mamo Cefai.
