According to new data released by the National Statistics Office, terraced houses and town houses are becoming increasingly rare on the Maltese islands.
The latest report shows that the majority of new dwellings approved during the second quarter of 2023 were apartments at 1,740.
This was followed by 386 penthouses, 222 maisonettes and just 81 terraced houses. 24 others were other residential units such as bungalows, farmhouses and villas.
This meant that apartments accounted for 70.9% of the total number of approved dwellings. During the second quarter of 2023, 494 building permits for a total of 2,453 new dwellings were approved.
‘When compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022, the number of building permits increased by 12.8 per cent while the number of approved new dwellings increased by 9.5 per cent. The average number of approved new dwellings per building permit stood at 5.0.’
