At the IWF Junior World Championships in León, Spain, Maltese weightlifter Tenishia Thornton delivered an impressive performance in the 64A category.

In the Snatch, she successfully lifted 85kg and, despite missing her second attempt at 88kg, she recovered on her third try to complete the lift.

In the Clean and Jerk, Thornton initially struggled due to abdominal pain but powered through to lift 106kg in her second attempt. She capped off her competition by lifting 109kg, finishing with a total of 197kg and placing 10th in the world rankings.

Rylee Borg also competed in the 81kg C category, where he set new Maltese Junior records.

After missing his first Snatch attempt at 113kg, Borg nailed it on his second try and followed up with a 116kg lift. In the Clean and Jerk, he lifted 142kg and eventually succeeded at 147kg in his third attempt, achieving a total of 263kg and placing 3rd in his group.

Kim Camilleri Laganà competed earlier in the 49kg B category, finishing 7th in her group and 11th overall. She completed a 64kg Snatch and an 86kg Clean and Jerk for a total of 150kg, outperforming competitors from Spain, Japan, and Tunisia.

Hiker Rescued After Getting Lost at Slugs Bay

Civil Protection Malta launched a search and rescue operation yesterday afternoon after receiving a distress call about a man lost while hiking at Slugs Bay. Rescuers from Fire Station 3 responded swiftly, locating the hiker beneath the edge of a cliff at Aħrax tal-Mellieħa.

To ensure the man’s safe return, rescuers from Fire Stations 5 and 6 provided critical assistance by sea, successfully bringing the hiker back to shore without injury. The operation demonstrated the effective coordination between land and sea teams, ensuring a swift and safe rescue.

Civil Protection Malta expressed gratitude to the Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department for their support throughout the operation. Thanks to the collective efforts, the hiker was safely rescued and received the necessary care.

This incident highlights the importance of caution when hiking in remote areas and the readiness of rescue teams to act in emergency situations. Civil Protection Malta continues to remind the public to take necessary precautions when exploring Malta’s natural landscapes.

The two recreate a popular trend wherein someone jumps over a phone and invites the other person to join them.

However, the twist is that now her son will have to go to school alone after the summer months. His mum is of course there to encourage him as her two sons both restart their education.
