Significant drop in ITU COVID-19 patients and admissions

Significant drop in ITU COVID-19 patients and admissions
Apr 5 2021 Share

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne took to Facebook to announce that there has been a significant drop in ITU COVID-19 patients, easing off the pressure exerted on Malta’s health system to a great degree considering the spread of COVID-19.

ITU admissions had decreased by half on April 1st, going from 32 to 15. This not only signifies health measures’ effectiveness, but also the vaccine rollout being successful in decreasing admissions for patients who would need immediate intensive care as 40% of the population has received the first dose of the vaccine. Fearne urges everyone to stay responsible in order to keep the numbers low and work our way out of the pandemic situation gradually.

Malta has been utilising the Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines and is awaiting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine which can be administered to younger age groups. Apart from the vaccine roll-out, which according to the Health Authorities is the main weapon against the virus, various mitigation health measures are in place. Cases have also significantly dropped meaning that the rollout accompanied by the measures are having the desired effect.
