Teenager with autism sends 663 thank-you cards to healthcare workers

Mar 9 2021 Share

National Health Services in England received almost 700 thank you cards from Paddy Joyce, a teenager with autism. Immensely grateful of the frontline workers who face the COVID-19 pandemic every single day, Joyce started writing to healthcare workers at Glasgow Royal Infirmary from mid-January. He managed to amass 663 letters directed individually to staff.

After asking his mother to give him the names of some workers, Joyce set to work wanting to turn the frowns of the workers upside down. His mother says writing letters calms the teenager’s concerns about the pandemic. He has managed to write a total of 1,000 cards and plans to hit the 5,000 mark by 2021’s end.

Mar 9 2021 Share

8 years ago, back in 9th March 2013,  one of the most tense Maltese general elections in recent history took place. After 25 years under a Nationalist government, the population decided it was time for a change and thus led to the victory of the Labour Party. The Labour Party won with a difference of 35,107 votes, receiving 167,533 votes and PN receiving 132,426.

Further down the timeline, in November of 2019, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced his resignation and gave way to his successor Robert Abela in January of 2020. Abela had his baptism by fire when on 7th March 2020, the world was struck by the COVID-19 pandemic. On the opposite end, Simon Busuttil resigned from the post of the Opposition’s leader, with Adrian Delia stepping up in September of 2017 and Bernard Grech following suit.
