The Nationalist Party issued a statement criticising the government’s handling of the healthcare sector, claiming that recent weeks have exposed further incompetence.

The PN argued that there have been numerous instances of mismanagement, including ministers contradicting each other and U-turns on planned investments, which ultimately harmed patients.

During a press conference at Mount Carmel Hospital, Shadow Ministers Adrian Delia and Ian Vassallo Hagi emphasised that millions of public funds were being wasted across various health projects. They pointed out that planned investments at Mount Carmel and the Outpatients Department at Mater Dei Hospital had been scrapped.

The Nationalist Party claimed that despite promises of services from the Northern and Raħal Ġdid health hubs, nothing materialised. In the case of Mount Carmel, a €10 million tender was issued for a new ward, despite earlier statements from the Health Minister that the hospital would be closed.

Additionally, the PN referred to the Medical Association of Malta (MAM) report, stating that nearly €11 million was wasted on plans for Mater Dei’s new Outpatients block and psychiatric facility, only for the project to be abandoned.

The PN also alleged that legal disputes around the Raħal Ġdid hub risk losing €50 million in EU funding, further compounding the government’s failures in the sector.
