The Malta Paralympic Committee (MPC) announced that Malta will be represented by two athletes at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: Maja Theuma in Para swimming and Antonio Flores in Para athletics.
Maja Theuma, 24, swims with Exiles SC and has over six years of competitive experience. She holds national records in various freestyle and backstroke events and will compete in the 50m freestyle S6 event on 29 August.
Maja is also chair of the MPC Para Athletes’ Council and a strong advocate for Paralympic sports.
Antonio Flores, 34, a long-time Para athlete with Zurrieq Wolves Athletics Club, has over 15 years of experience.
After competing in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, he underwent an amputation in 2017. Antonio will compete in the 100m and 200m T64 events on 1 and 7 September.
MPC Secretary General, Dr. Julian Bajada, highlighted that the athletes are prepared for the Games, with a goal of achieving personal bests.
He emphasised the Games’ broader impact on the local Paralympic movement, which has grown significantly between Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. The team, coached by Edward Caruana Dingli and supported by sponsors like Hudson’s Nike brand, is set for the Games, starting with the Opening Ceremony on 28 August.
