Teacher and ADPD candidate slams authorities after St Patrick’s celebrations

Sandra Gauci, a teacher and ADPD candidate, issued a statement slamming the authorities for the lack of respect shown towards workers following the St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Infuriated, Gauci highlighted how whilst educators are forced to wear masks and use sanitisers, mass meetings and St Patrick’s Day celebrations went ahead without any adherence to mitigation measures.

She also highlighted the fact that Opposition leader Bernard Grech joined in the celebrations in St Julian’s, taking photos alongside all those convening in the entertainment Mecca.

‘Thank you for the lack of respect to educators, public health front liners and anyone who lost someone due to COVID-19. Now try and buy us through some fictitious raise’ she said.

Gauci emphasised the recent spike in daily cases of the virus, but this is being ignored so that people can revel in mass meetings or parties. She also forecasted an increase in measures and the introduction of a fourth booster dose, after all celebrations were done with.

Comments flooded the post, with several mixed reactions from the public. Some supported Gauci’s message whilst others said that people have a right to celebrate but at the same time asked that kids remove masks in class. Others slammed the vaccine mandates or the cancellation of local feasts.

People caught photographing votes face fines or jail time

The electoral commission has issued a warning to all those heading to the polls on the 26th of March that the use of mobile phones, cameras or other photographic technology is prohibited in voting sites.

The commission emphasised that anyone who is caught taking a photo or a video of the vote and is found guilty can receive a hefty fine or even face jail time.

Early voters will be taking to the polls tomorrow, a week early for specific groups of people. The general public will be able to hand in their electoral preferences on the 26th of March.

Politicians are in the mean time all gearing up for this big day, with mass rallies and political conferences by candidates and respective leaders ramping up excitement.

Assistance to be offered to voluntary sector by Bernard Grech

Bernard Grech revealed during a political rally in Mqabba yesterday that the Nationalist Party will be offering aid to voluntary organisations to see that they work with much more ease.

He made the announcement alongside the candidates who will be contesting the 5th district. Speaking during the event, Toni Bezzina said that the party always had proposals which help the Maltese and Gozitan people.

Bezzina said that the Nationalist Party will making sure that feasts in summer are celebrated as they were before the COVID pandemic. He highlighted the trackless tram as well as the €10,000 incentive for those who renounce their own car.

Candidate Stefan Caruana highlighted the pledges which place importance on the youth, saying that the Opposition is showing through action that it wants to help the younger generation. Other candidates, Francine Farrugia, Owen Sciberras and Stanley Zammit also highlighted many of the PN’s measures during the event, vouching for Grech’s electoral plan should the public vote the party into government.

Strong gale winds as Gozo Channel announces delays

Malta’s Meteorological Office is issuing warnings of strong winds, set to increase to gale forces as the hours progress.

The warning is being issued up until 9pm of today, Friday 18th March, but it could be extended as necessary. With south-east to east winds hitting the island, the Gozo Channel wrote to Facebook for travellers to expect delays.

Fast Ferry services were postponed up until next Sunday. The X300 will be operating instead, which takes workers and students from Valletta and Imsida to Ċirkewwa.

Facebook page Aġġornament tat-Temp forecasted force 7 and 8 winds, with temperatures which reach a high of 16°C and a low of 10°C.

The weather page is also forecasting rainy weather for Saturday evening and on Sunday night. Winds will remain at a very strong force, with warnings extended to anyone venturing outside.
