Swieqi Shops And Residents Without Electricity

Nationalist deputy Swieqi mayor Jordan Galea Pace has revealed in a statement that several shops and residents are currently living without electricity, denying shops from functioning and residents from living an optimal life.

In his statement, Pace wrote “This afternoon I visited the shops and residents of Swieqi, who have been left suffering without electricity due to the incompetence of a government with no clear direction or plan. Numerous shops had to close, and residents were unable to stay comfortably at home in the intense heat.”

Jordon wrote that in light of the worrying situation there should be immediate clarification on whether compensation will be provided to the shop owners who have lost business today.

The deputy mayor continued by stating that it is unacceptable that such a vital service has been disrupted with no support for those affected by no electricity. He also stated that Prime Minister Robert Abela and Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli should be ashamed of themselves.

He ended his statement by stating “As deputy mayor, I will remain steadfast in advocating for the needs of our community until all residents of Swieqi can enjoy a decent quality of life.”

Jake Vella’s Parents Write Heartfelt Poem On His ‘Santa’

Jake Vella, the teenage athlete who passed away after a long struggle with a rare neurological condition, was laid to rest on Saturday morning in a funeral which included a heartwarming poem written by Vella’s parents on his ‘santa’.

The poem, written in Maltese, described Jake’s life from when he was born, to when he was 5 years old and first diagnosed with a rare neurological condition to Jake growing older and becoming a national treasure and hero due to his determination and positivity which inspired the Maltese population.

The poem also reveals his well documented love for sports and for animals, two things which he focused on very much during his life despite facing difficulties.

Ultimately the text highlights the love that not only Jake’s parents, Maruska and Josie, had for him but the love and admiration that every single Maltese person had for him and his spirit.

Ancient Amphora Discovered Underwater In St. Paul’s Bay

A remarkable discovery was made in St. Paul’s Bay when a swimmer stumbled upon what was initially thought to be an explosive device underwater.

The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) promptly dispatched their Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to safely retrieve the object from the seabed. However, upon closer examination, it was identified as an ancient amphora, estimated to be around 2,000 years old.

An amphora is a type of container with a pointed bottom and characteristic shape and size mostly from the Neolithic period.

In accordance with the Cultural Heritage Act, any discovery of cultural artifacts, whether on land or underwater, must be reported within 24 hours to the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage.

As the authority responsible for protecting Malta and Gozo’s cultural heritage, the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage was immediately informed and took charge of the artifact.

The amphora has since been transferred to the Superintendence’s conservation laboratory, where it is currently undergoing a desalination process.

In the coming weeks, archaeologists and conservators will study the artifact in greater detail to uncover more about its origins and historical significance.

Malta Ranked As One Of The Most Unaffordable Places To Live

According to the 2024 Expat Insider survey by InterNations, Malta has been ranked as one of the least affordable destinations for expats seeking a new place to call home.

The Mediterranean island placed 36th out of 53 countries in terms of personal finance, indicating that the cost of maintaining a comfortable and healthy lifestyle in Malta is higher compared to many other countries.

Surprisingly, Malta was ranked as more expensive than several major Western nations, including the United States, Germany, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The survey highlighted that the most affordable countries for expats to live in are Vietnam, Colombia, and Indonesia, while some of the most expensive locations include Canada, Finland, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.

Within Europe, Portugal, Spain, and Poland were recognized as the most affordable countries for expats.
