Swieqi Local Council candidate Jordan Galea Pace decided to beat yesterday’s traffic by using his bike to travel between Swieqi & Mtarfa on time.

However, despite all the benefits of using ulterior modes of transportation – saving time, putting in some cardio and removing car from the busy streets – he ended up having an accident.

Jordan ended up in Mater Dei Hospital, having broken both of his arms.

Tagging Transport Minister Chris Bonett, Galea Pace urged for better infrastructure so other accidents won’t happen.

‘Even if I can’t use both of my arms as they’re both broken and have been ordered to stay home, I will continue campaigning and fighting for every vote (I’ll find a new way to knock).’

‘Because Malta deserves better’

Despite the injuries, he thanked all the nurses and doctors at the Mosta Clinic and Mater Dei emergency for their work.

Over Half Of Breakwater Construction In Buġibba Completed

Over Half Of Breakwater Construction In Buġibba Completed

With a strong focus on sustainable transportation, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Funds, Equality, Reforms, and Social Dialogue Chris Fearne, accompanied by Minister for Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works Chris Bonett, conducted a site visit to the ongoing Buġibba Ferry Landing Site project.

This project, funded under the European Regional Development Fund (2014-2020) with a total investment of €4.2 million, €2.8 million of which are EU funds, showcases the Maltese government’s dedication to improving the accessibility and viability of maritime public transport as a sustainable alternative to private car usage.

The Buġibba Ferry Landing Site, a key component of the SMITHS project (Sustainable Multi Intermodal Transport Hubs across Malta), is undergoing a modern transformation with upgraded infrastructure including a new breakwater, slipway, pontoon, mooring facilities, gangways, and fenders. This initiative aims not only to enhance accessibility and reduce road congestion but also to contribute significantly to reducing air emissions. Additionally, the introduction of new amenities such as a multi-purpose hall and rooftop garden will greatly enhance the quality of life for project beneficiaries.

During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne underscored the importance of environmentally friendly projects and their positive impact on air quality and public health. Minister Bonett highlighted the significance of investing in maritime infrastructure such as breakwaters and moorings to enhance maritime transport in Malta, benefiting both local connectivity and tourism in the area.

“These structures play a crucial role in facilitating public transport usage on the sea, connecting areas like the Cottonera and Sliema to Valletta. Furthermore, investments like these support coastal communities, provide safe infrastructure for sailors, and ensure sustainable development and resilience against environmental challenges,” Minister Bonett concluded.

As part of the SMITHS project, which includes initiatives to promote walking, cycling, and enhance the public transport system through innovative measures, this project demonstrates ongoing efforts towards a cleaner and more sustainable Malta.

Jellyfish Blooms Around Maltese Coasts Starting

JELLYFISH BLOOMS AROUND MALTESE COASTS STARTING!
Apr 11 2024 Share

Sharing photographs on social media, marine biologist Alan Deidun announced that jellyfish blooms are kicking off at the southern coasts of Malta’s beaches.

‘Yet another stage in the annual life cycle of the mauve stinger (Pelagia noctiluca)’, explained Deidun.

‘Seems like the next generation of mauve stinger medusae came of age, with massive blooms of small-diameter jellyfish being reported all along the southern coast of the island of Malta, stretching from Marsascala all the way to Żurrieq.’

The marine biologist went on to explain that if these jellyfish are the product of last January’s spawning exercise, then ‘we might be heading for a summer bathing season characterised by relatively low mauve stinger numbers’.

This is because this year’s bloom would have run out of steam by then. The ‘might’ is obligatory since jellyfish dynamics are anything but predictable.
