Suspected drug trafficker found hiding in Miżieb

The Malta Police Force have found suspected drug trafficker Aidan Bartolo hiding in Mizieb after an intense pursuit which started on Thursday evening.

Bartolo was found hiding from the police in Mizieb, amongst the tall grass and trees. The 24-year-old had been evading the police for hours after initially being spotted and chased down the Mellieha bypass.

The suspect reportedly drove onto official police vehicles with his red Mazda Demio, with shots fired by the police soon after to stop the individual from driving further.

Bartolo then drove towards the Mizieb area, where he abandoned his car and took to the trees to hide from police. The Drug Squad within the Police Force began pursuing Bartolo on Thursday around 6PM and found him in the early hours of Friday.

The Malta Police Force was assisted by the Canine Unit and a helicopter from the Armed Forces, with an ambulance being sent on site.

Officials from the Major Crimes Unit, Rapid Intervention Unit, Special Intervention Unit, district police and Armed Forces have intervened in a major police manhunt after shots were fired Mellieha earlier this evening. TVM have reported that the police chased a vehicle down the Mellieha bypass after the suspected individual was being monitored for a couple of days by local enforcement officials. No injuries have been reported so far.

The Malta Police Force has since issued a photo of the suspected drug trafficker Aidan Bartolo, who reportedly drove into official police vehicles in an attempt to escape when he noticed that he was being followed. It was at that moment that the police were instructed to fire in the direction of the individual in order to stop him.

The suspect then exited his car and made way to the Miżieb area on foot. The police are currently searching for the individual and have appealed to the public that anyone with any information on the matter may communicate with the police, even anonymously, via Facebook Messenger or by phone on 21224001 / 119 and quoting number 7/2021.

An eye witness has since reported that children were training in a nearby football ground when the gunshots were fired, with the children taken indoors soon after.

December is finally upon us and with it, the much-anticipated opening of The Magical Illuminated Trail, an enchanting Christmas adventure which will welcome families to the gorgeous Verdala Palace in Buskett for an unforgettable experience.

After last year’s successful Magical Illuminated Trail Drive Thru at Gianpula Village, this year’s edition will be a walk-thru featuring NEW larger than life lantern illuminated sculptures, light installations, projections and so much more against the iconic backdrop of Buskett’s Verdala Palace. The spectacular walk about journey will kick off tomorrow 3rd December until the 9th January and is sure to enchant attendees of all ages.

The after-dark adventure features mesmerising glittering structures such as the Huge Winged Dragon, the Midnight Express Train, the Arctic World and Candy Land amongst many others, with thousands of fairy-lights to guide you through the journey.

As temperatures begin to drop, the Illuminated Trail Malta team have advised attendees to dress appropriately, wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip and a suitable jacket, along with an umbrella just in case it rains a bit.

The Illuminated Trail Malta is supported the Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection, The Malta Tourism Authority and Arts Council Malta. The event will once again be held in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.
