The fan favourite sitcom FRIENDS, which was broadcast 28 years ago and still managed to maintain an audience of millions globally, has been deemed the best TV show ever by a survey.
A recent survey conducted by OnePoll and commissioned by YouTube revealed that the sitcom was voted the greatest TV show ever produced in the mainstream media.
The news caught the eye of Chandler Bing-actor Matthew Perry, who shared an Instagram snapshot of the sitcom’s ranking. He simply reacted with the caption; ‘Nice.’ Not the most enthusiastic of celebrations but considering how much of a following the show garnered over the years, it’s a little unsurprising at this point.
FRIENDS managed to beat sitcom classic ‘Seinfeld’, and even other genres of shows such as Game of Thrones, which ranked at 3rd place.
Nearly a fifth of respondents claim that the 80s and the 90s were the prime for television, with the 2000s, 2010s and 70’s trailing not too far behind. Only 7% believe we are currently living in th best era for TV.
The study also for d that three in four respondents will always stop to watch their favourite TV shows no matter how they’re feeling.
Of course, what makes a show good varies from person to person. 60% cared more about a show’s cast and writing than the aesthetic or plot. 65% also said they think of people in their lives when they watch their favourite shows, with 69% admitting they will try to convince friends and family to watch a show they love or discovered.
The survey comes just after the FRIENDS reunion which brought all the beloved actors back for an emotional and nostalgia inducing sit-down and reenactment of several scenes.
