Summer, Is That You? Temperatures Forecasted To Rise On Monday

Local weather page ‘Aġġornament tat-temp’ is forecasting an increase in temperatures as of Monday, with a wide area of high pressure approaching the Maltese Islands from Libya.

This wave of high pressure will bring with it more stable weather and higher temperatures, ushering in what the public hopes to be a proper stint of summer weather.

The weather page went on to forecast a significant period of stable weather as of Monday, with strong winds beginning to decline from today until Saturday’s twilight. Sunday is expected to welcome light winds and generally sunny weather, with temperature lows of 20°C and highs of 29°C. This forecast has been corroborated by Malta’s Met Office, with maltairport.com confirming that Malta is expected to have a stint of sunny weather from Saturday until Thursday at the very least.

Over the past few weeks, Malta has experienced a streak of irregular weather, with rainfall, cloudy weather and relatively lower temperatures hitting the Maltese Islands during May and June.

Recently-surfaced footage reveals two cars escaping what could have been a rather nasty incident after a car bolted into the wrong lane whilst attempting to overtake in Mġarr.

The dashcam footage shows a driver cruising down Triq Għajn Tuffieħa before at a regular speed before a car dashes into the wrong lane whilst overtaking a driving instructor’s car.

The potential head-on clash was averted by the driver taking the video as he brought his car to a complete halt, allowing the reckless driver to return to his rightful lane.

The Malta Police Force recently revealed that between January 1st and May 21st 2023, a total of 581 traffic accident victims were registered by the Malta Police Force, with 106 victims reported in January alone, with one of them sustaining fatal injuries.

Malta’s Top 3 Films Of 2022 Were Minions, Top Gun And Jurassic World Dominion

According to recently-released data by the National Statistics Office (NSO), Malta’s top films of 2022 have left audiences thrilled and the cash registers ringing. With six cinemas and 23 screens in total, the box office receipts reached an impressive €3,385,111.

Leading the pack were the lovable ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’, capturing 7.1% of total admissions, followed closely by ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ at 6.1%, and the thrilling ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ at 5.9%.

In addition to the global phenomenon that is the ‘Minions’ brand and the nostalgic-yet-fresh appeal of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ understandably found its place in Malta’s top 3, considering that the film was partly filmed on the island. Malta’s use as a backdrop for one of the largest film franchises in the world undoubtedly instilled a sense of pride in Maltese film-lovers, building towards the inevitable arrival of the next blockbuster franchise.

Maltese productions, particularly short films, drew 15,159 viewers, earning €85,478 in the process. The majority of films, 52.9% to be exact, fell within the 76 to 120-minute range, offering a balanced viewing experience.

The longest-running genre belonged to the ‘Live/Encore’ screenings, including opera, ballet, and theatre. With a successful lineup and diverse offerings, Malta’s cinema scene continues to shine.

Manchester City midfielder and England national team player Phil Foden has been spotted chilling in a hotel balcony ahead of England’s match against Malta later this evening.

A candid snap taken by a passer-by below shows the 23-year-old admiring the Maltese views in front of him, most likely getting into the correct headspace for his national team’s match against Malta at this evening’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Foden, together with his son Ronnie, became viral sensations after taking to the streets of Manchester to celebrate City’s Champions League and treble victory, with clips of the two celebrating exploding on social media.

English National Team’s arrival did not come without its issues, with the team’s plane taking a wrong turn, causing it to get to get towed. The landing issue also forced a delay in a planned conference between the Three Lions and Maltese media.

Malta will take on England this evening at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium for a Euro 2024 qualifier, with anticipation among football fans continuing to build.
