A taxi driver is being hailed as a hero after he allegedly locked a suspicious passenger in his cab before the vehicle exploded outside a Liverpool hospital. The car, which belonged to David Perry, was engulfed in a fireball outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital yesterday morning.
The passenger was killed in the back, after he asked to be driven to the Service of Remembrance at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral a mile away. Perry allegedly suffered minor injuries including cuts, bruises and ear drum damage. The father of two has already been discharged from hospital.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident, with anti-terror police performing a series of raids in a developing investigation. The man first asked Perry to pull over outside the hospital when they found out that they could not get to the event due to blocked streets.
Perry noticed some kind of light attached to the man’s clothing and acted quick. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Liverpool Mayor Joanne Anderson thanked Perry and expressed their thoughts for those who were impacted by the incident.
