Student organisations call for closure of schools & shift to online learning

Following today’s public health conference, student bodies and organisations across Malta have called for a complete shift to virtual learning.

The Junior College student council KSJC has appealed for a shift to online, posting a statement which was endorsed by both Junior College organisations SDM and Pulse while the latter have released a statement online ‘urging all educational institutions to shift completely to online learning’ until the 11th of April at the very least.

Contact sports prohibited for children aged 16 and under amongst other COVID-19 measures

During today’s press conference regarding the current COVID-19 situation, it was announced that contact sports will now be prohibited for children aged 16 and under, amongst other measures. Individuals aged over 16 will still be able to participate in contact sports.

It was also reported that government and public sectors will shift to teleworking while private sectors were encouraged.

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne reported that all front-liners have been inoculated while 80% of citizens aged 80 and over have been inoculated as the current vaccination system progresses.

BREAKING: Restaurants to only provide take-away services starting tomorrow

In today’s press conference addressed by Prime Minister Robert Abela, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne and Superintendent for Public Health addressed the recent increase in COVID-19, one of the main reasons being the entry of virus variants.

Effective tomorrow Friday 5th, restaurants, kiosks and snack bars will be open only to offer take-away services, bars and band clubs will remain closed while accommodations will only be able to cater to residents.

Abela also stated that the fine for breaking COVID-19 measures will double, amounting to €6,000 and stated that private events should only be limited to a maximum of four households, amongst other measures.

Restaurants, bars and kiosks will also be once again eligible to receive to government’s wage supplement.

362 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 230 recoveries

Malta has registered 362 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 4,146 swab tests, while 230 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Wednesday 3rd March 2021, 86,854 vaccine doses were administered of which 30,329 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 23,588 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 20,135 have recovered, 325 died and 3,128 are still active.
