Strong Early Morning Earthquake Felt In Malta

Maltese, along with people across Sicily and Calabria, reportedly woke up jolted at around 3:30am after tremors hit, originating from the Ionian Sea.

Weather page ‘It-Temp Madwarna’ reported that, thankfully, no damages were reported from the 4.9 magnitude earthquake.

The weather page reported how it took place at a depth of 7 miles and was felt primarily in the northeast of the Maltese islands.

Commenters reported differently, with some saying that they were woken up by the tremors whereas others did not feel a thing.

Robert & Lydia Abela Visit Palestinian Kids Getting Aid In Malta

At the building of the Agency for the Protection of Asylum Seekers in Ħal Far, Prime Minister Robert Abela, together with his wife Dr. Lydia Abela, the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri, and the Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, met with the four Palestinian children from Gaza who are in our country to receive medical treatment.

The Prime Minister also spoke with the families of these children. He offered them words of encouragement and told them that they are welcome in the country to rebuild their lives after the suffering brought by the war.

In the presence of the Palestinian Ambassador to Malta, Fadi Hanania, he explained how Malta continues to advocate for the two-state solution.

The Prime Minister’s wife, Dr. Lydia Abela, gave gifts to these children as part of the annual initiative ‘Rigal bi Mħabba’ (Gift with Love), which is made possible through the generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan people.

The children arrived in Malta early Thursday morning after a long journey from the Middle East to receive medical treatment at Mater Dei Hospital.

This was also made possible through coordinated efforts under an initiative run through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, with the participation of Malta’s Civil Protection Department.

Maltese content creator and OG Malta Daily team member @jp.caruana has been on quite a journey over the past few weeks, covering some major events from around the globe including major dance music festival Ultra Miami 2025 and his first F1 weekend with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team at the Bahrain F1 GrandPrix.

In a set of recent social media posts, JP gave a behind-the-scenes look at his experience at Ultra Miami, a life-long dream for the creator, as unforgettable: “Nothing quite tops this experience, and I can’t wait to see what we come up with for the final edit!” he shared as he joined some of the world’s finest creators for an intense few days in Miami.

Soon after, Caruana flew to Bahrain for another creative milestone, taking on his very first F1 filming assignment with Mercedes AMG-Petronas at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Sakhir — capturing the high-speed action and behind-the-scenes energy of race day.

Irishman Dies After Finding Difficulty Swimming In St Julian’s

A 76 year old Irish man died after he found difficulty when swimming in St Julian’s.

It was around 1240hrs when police were informed that their assistance was needed in Xatt is-Sajjieda, St Julian’s.

Police convened immediately on site and there they noted a person in the water. Assistance from the Civil Protection and the Armed Forces of Malta was requested, with the man being brought to land as quickly as possible.

Despite being given medical aid, the man was confirmed deceased a few moments later.

An inquiry has been opened as police investigate further.
