Stranger Things S4 loses top spot on Netflix to Umbrella Academy S3

Stranger Things’ fourth season enjoyed quite the dominant position following its return to Netflix. However, that top position was toppled by the return of another popular series.

Stranger Things enjoyed a month long first place, breaking a number of records. This includes Netflix’s most viewed season of English-language TV in one week and the first season to reach number 1 in 83 countries.

However, the winning streak came to a sudden halt with the arrival of Umbrella Academy season three, which dropped this week on Wednesday 22nd June.

Statistics show that the superhero series is in first place both in the UK and the US, with Stranger Things clutching at the first position from second place. This could however change when the second part of season 4 drops next month.

Fans are currently enjoying their binge of Umbrella Academy, which is also being praised for its expert handling of Elliot Page’s transition from Ellen Page. The 35-year-old came out as trans in 2020, and revealed that their character would be doing the same.

The two series are at a head as both have some very iconic and gut-wrenching scenes throughout. We’ll have to see which series wins out in the end – which one do you prefer?

Dog show dedicated to Maltese indigenous hunting dogs for Mnarja 2022

The Federazzjoni Kaccaturi Nassaba Konservazzjonisti (FKNK) have announced an official Mnarja 2022 dog show, dedicated to Maltese indigenous dog breeds.

The dog show will celebrate the prowess, loyalty and beauty of the Maltese Hunting Dog and the Pharaoh Hound (Kelb tal-Kacca ta’ Malta and the Kelb tal-Fenek respectively).

The pharaoh hound is the national Maltese dog, whilst the Maltese Hunting Dog is indigenous to the islands. The FKNK revealed that there have been genetic tests conducted to prove this theory correct.

‘We have established a club – Klabb Klieb tal-Kacca ta’ Malta – to continue promote and safeguard this breed.’ Dr James Galea is the current chairperson of the club.

Gianni Guffanti, an official international judge, will be taking to the panel for the first time ever. The show is set for the 28th of June 2022 at Buskett Gardens at 8:30pm.

Nationalist Party calls for more resources for Animal Welfare Department

The Nationalist Party has issued a call for a better resourced Animal Welfare Department. This comes after the MSPCA stepped in to rescue four flea-infested dogs which were abandoned in a field which had gone ablaze in Gudja.

The organisation had also found a horse in the same field which had probably starved to death. A resident raised an alarm when Animal Welfare officers did not take the dogs in as they were not chipped and were deemed to be ‘healthy’.

Residents living nearby also fed the dogs over the wall whenever their owner stopped coming to visit the dogs. The opposition has put pressure on the government to immediately allocate adequate resources, both in Human Resources as well as in terms of capacity.

Praising the MSPCA for its work, the PN said it is unacceptable that flea-infested dogs are not taken in especially during such a hot summer. PN spokesperson for animal rights Janice Chetcuti said that animal rights and welfare need to be taken seriously.

Bust honouring Puttinu founder Victor Calvagna inaugurated in Qawra

The bust of Puttinu Cares founder Dr Victor Calvagna was erected and inaugurated in Qawra by sculptor Indri Attard and Victor Galea.

The first images of the bust were shared on Puttinu Cares’ social media, with the NGO thanking the St Paul’s Bay local council for the wonderful initiative. Apart from thanking the creators themselves, Puttinu also thanked the athletes who participated in the marathon run and for making this a memorable landmark for the beloved doctor.

Calvagna was a renowned doctor in Malta, founding the main organisation which helps many, most prominently children, as they battled cancer. The doctor unfortunately passed earlier this year following a road accident. His memory lived on in the large amount of good Puttinu Cares is doing and all those who were healed from the disease under his watch.
