Stop wearing ties to save energy amid heatwave, Spanish PM tells workers

Stop wearing ties to save energy amid heatwave, Spanish PM tells workers
Jul 30 2022 Share

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has instructed workers in the public and private sectors to stop wearing neckties as an energy-conservation measure as Spain amid an intense heatwave in the country.

Sanchez turned to this “urgent” measure as temperatures continue to rise across Europe, with most countries experiencing record-high temperatures. The PM went on to state that he himself wasn’t wearing a necktie and wanted his ministers, public officials and workers in private industries to follow suit.

The reasoning behind this is that as a result, people may stay cooler, use less air conditioners and thus lower energy costs as European countries move to decrease their dependency on Russian gas in light of the war in Ukraine.

Malta has also seen a recent spike in temperatures, with air conditioner usage becoming more and more common as the years roll on. Should we follow in the footsteps of Spain?

In a hilarious TikTok video, which sees Eyre at the supermarket, the chart-topping pop star is seen stocking up on ‘the goods’, as she refers to them, and filling her luggage to the brim. In a previous interview with Malta Daily, Ella Eyre had stated that this is common practice whenever she comes to Malta, and we really can’t blame her.

Do you do this in other countries?
