The statue of Ħamrun patron saint St Cajetan has just made history as the first and only Maltese statue to enter St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
Grupp Armar San Gejtanu Ħamrun, who ensured the trip to the Roman city all went swell, shared footage of the pilgrimage as the statue was moved through the streets of Italy.
The statue even invited Pope Francis himself who paid tribute to the saint and prayed in front of the statue.
The statue’s journey is part of the celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Theatine Order, an order established by St. Cajetan himself.
On September 14th, a special commemoration was held in Rome to honour this remarkable milestone.
