Spotify to launch TikTok style discovery feeds

Spotify to launch TikTok style discovery feeds
Mar 9 2023 Share

During Spotify’s ‘Stream On’ event in Los Angeles, the music streaming giant introduced a significant redesign to its mobile app which is reminiscent of TikTok style scrolling.

In the updated Spotify mobile app, users will gain access to brand new features, which include the vertically scrolling discovery feeds as well as a Smart Shuffle mode for playlists and even new podcast autoplay features.

The TikTok inspired feed will be rolled out to everyone, but features like Smart Shuffle will only be available for subscribers.

The features will be released at different intervals, with Spotify saying that these changes will make its user interface feel more alive.

The app also introduces a new surface in the app which can serve as a new ad-space. The revamp will also address user complaints that the app has become too cluttered to use and thus limits discovery.

When these features are introduced, users will not be immediately dropped into a new style of navigating the platform. At the top of the music feed’s screen, users will find shortcuts to personalised playlists and mixes.

Mr Beast gives 20,000 South African kids their first pair of shoes

Mr Beast gives 20,000 South African kids their first pair of shoes

Posting to his philanthropic channel, world famous YouTuber Mr Beast revealed his latest stunt in giving 20,000 kids in South Africa their first pair of shoes.

Working with his sponsor Lectric eBikes, the YouTuber donated a massive amount of footwear to kids in Africa so that they could walk to school in the morning.

The YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, explained to his viewers that walking to school barefoot is the only option for these students given the poverty in their rural towns.

Donaldson sought out charity Barefoot No More, which creates footwear designed with innovative materials for durability and comfort. The team met two junior school teachers in a Cape Town rural village.

Once the shoes had landed, Mr Beast stated, they were sent to nine different schools all over the region.

“To witness these kids wearing their first-ever pairs of shoes was really emotional and again, a realisation of the basic needs that most of us take for granted,” MrBeast said.

Recently, the young YouTuber posted a video ‘curing blindness’ for around 1000 people. However, these stunts did not go down well with everyone. In response to criticism, Mr Beast tweeted out saying:

“Twitter – Rich people should help others with their money.
“Me – Okay, I’ll use my money to help people and I promise to give away all my money before I die. Every single penny.
“Twitter – MrBeast bad.”

MHRA raises concerns over new Sliema Seafront fuel station

MHRA raises concerns over new Sliema Seafront fuel station
Mar 9 2023 Share

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association issued a statement in reference to the news published yesterday stating that a Sliema kerbside fuel station has been slated for approval.

“MHRA questions the need of having a fuel station set just right at the Sliema seafront when this should be considered as one of Malta’s leading tourism destinations. Rather than going for such eyesore developments, MHRA states that the relevant authorities should be directing investment towards the improvement of the quality experience of the Sliema seafront and its surroundings.”

“Facilities such as fuel stations should be located outside the town cores for various reasons so MHRA cannot understand such contradictory decisions by the relevant authorities when all today agree that Sliema and other tourism destinations across Malta and Gozo should be embellished to promote a more authentic experience. MHRA states that such decisions contribute towards the depletion of the image of a destination and once lost it will be impossible to bring it back.”

“Indeed, MHRA asserts that it’s about time that a clear message is sent by the relevant authorities that they are working on the same wavelength in recognizing the importance of the holistic experience offered through critical tourism destinations such as that of Sliema seafront.”

“Unfortunately, from what we are seeing it doesn’t augur well for the future, however MHRA trusts that in such case logic will ultimately prevail.”
