In a conference at the National Pool Complex in Qroqq, Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli, Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima and newly appointed President of Special Olympics Malta Lydia Abela unveiled the new agreement reached between SportMalta and Special Olympics Malta which will result in €420,000 in assistance given to Special Olympics Malta over a three year period. This investment will be there to help Special Olympics athletes in order to participate in the International Special Olympics and other training camps and programmes abroad.
Farrugia Portelli stated that this sum is a substantial increase from the usual amount granted which used to sum up to around €100,000 annually. She also recognised that Malta is giving persons with disability the opportunities to compete professionally, showcasing the belief put into the ability of these athletes.
