Southern Regional Council Given Electrical Van For The Community

The Southern Regional Council, incorporating twelve local councils, has benefited from a donation from the LESA agency following a request to receive an electrical van for community purposes.

During the official presentation , Security and Employment Byron Camilleri reminded the public that in the last three years over €3.25 million has been allocated by the LESA agency to carry out various projects in localities across Malta and Gozo. Camilleri also stated that “The government remains committed to supporting investment in projects that enhance the quality of life of the community,”

On her part, Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli remarked that one of the main objectives of regional councils is to support and assist local councils in their work. She noted that this electrical van will be another necessary and beneficial tool in the work of the Southern Regional Council.

Present at this ceremony were also the President of the Southern Regional Council Jesmond Aquilina, and the Chief Executive of the LESA Agency, Svetlick Flores.

Gozo Bishop Anton Teuma has garnered praise for delivering a poignant homily urging society to prioritize humanity over materialism – with the speech going absolutely viral.

Speaking at St George’s Basilica in Rabat to commemorate St George’s Day, Fr Teuma expressed his desire for a shift in societal values.

He advocated for churches to prioritize community over aesthetics, envisioning them as places filled with people rather than architectural marvels on the brink of collapse.

Fr Teuma also emphasized the importance of strong families, suggesting that fewer grand houses and more meaningful relationships would benefit society.

He lamented the disparity between the abundance of buildings and the struggle for young people to acquire property, advocating for greater accessibility to housing.

Fr Teuma called for more modest celebrations focused on genuine happiness rather than grandeur, and for young people to find fulfillment without resorting to alcohol and drugs. He emphasized the importance of compassion and community support, highlighting these as essential Christian values.

Nationalist Party Urges Government To Do More For Animal Rights

The Nationalist Party, with the help of Shadow Minister for Animal Welfare and Consumer Rights Janice Chetcuti and European Parliament election candidate Louise Anne Pulis have released a statement condemning the government’s decision to prioritize consultation over action when it comes to animal rights.

In the statement they also highlighted how the Government has left NGOs and Animal Sanctuaries, as well as individuals who have domestic animals without access to veterinary care and an official animal hospital.

Speaking at a conference Chetcuti and Pulis noted that after the Nationalist Government fulfilled their ambition of opening a 24-hour animal hospital, this Government has continuously delayed until they shut it down .They also stated that for these past eight months, they left everyone without a solution. They continued to emphasize that this is a Government that claims to consult a hundred times but still fails to act.

Chetcuti and Pulis also questioned whether authorities are keeping track of how and from whom dogs are being registered, as well as whether they are ensuring that these animals are not being killed in private residences using brutal methods.

The Nationalist Party have also stated that they are ready to work with the Government for the welfare of animals. Therefore, they will continue to insist that the Government moves from only consultation and takes legislative action to truly promote animal welfare.
