Mount Etna in Italy erupted spectacularly with lava and ash earlier this week. Located on the island of Sicily, the eruption prompted Italy’s Civil Protection agency to elevate the alert level from green to yellow. Lava cascaded down the slopes of the approximately 3,300-meter-high volcano.

Fifth Edition of Mużika Mużika Announced: Applications Now Open

Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, has announced the opening of applications for the fifth edition of Mużika Mużika, scheduled to take place on March 27, 28, and 29, 2025. Applications can be submitted online at muzikamuzika.mt until September 27, 2024, or in person at the Festivals Malta offices in Floriana on September 26 and 27, 2024.

Minister Bonnici highlighted that Mużika Mużika continues to achieve new milestones, not only in participation levels but also in the quality of songs and musical performances presented. He emphasised that the festival has strengthened its reputation within the Maltese music community, providing singers, composers, and authors with a prestigious platform to showcase their talent.

In the same announcement, Festivals Malta presented trophies to the winners of the fourth edition. Maxine Pace won with the song “Mhux tal-Aħħar” written by Emil Calleja Bayliss and composed by Cyprian Cassar. Other notable mentions included Kantera’s “Vjaġġ Sabiħ” and Cliff Zammit Stevens’ “Fil-Qrib.” Special awards were also given for outstanding arrangements and interpretations.

Preparations for the fifth edition are well underway, with the festival set to select 16 finalist songs. The first night on March 27 will not be an elimination round, allowing participants to enjoy the festival more fully. Emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply to be part of this event.
