The agreement, known as ‘BRIDGEforEU’, addresses long-standing challenges faced by cross-border workers, patients, and businesses—such as difficulties in accessing healthcare, delays in the transportation of goods, and administrative hurdles.

Under the new framework, individuals will be able to report such barriers, enabling EU member states to work together on practical, coordinated solutions.

The initiative reflects the principle that Europe must serve all its citizens equally, not just a select few. While it may be a modest step in legislative terms, it marks a meaningful improvement in the daily lives of many across the European Union.

A major clean-up operation is underway at a historic part of the San Klement Bastion in Bormla, as government entities join forces to restore and repurpose the site. The initiative follows an agreement between the Lands Authority and the Cleansing and Maintenance Division, aimed at rehabilitating long-neglected public structures.

The site, which includes a historic warehouse forming part of Cottonera’s important fortification system, had been sealed off for years. The current works involve clearing accumulated bulky waste, internal cleaning, and implementing safety measures to allow workers to operate in secure conditions.

Minister for Lands Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi described the intervention as a significant step toward preserving and better utilising state-owned historic buildings. He noted that such efforts will eventually allow these spaces to be returned to local communities in new, meaningful ways.

Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield emphasised the power of inter-agency collaboration, highlighting how different departments can work together to deliver results that benefit the public.

This clean-up is the first in a series of similar interventions planned across Malta. It reflects a broader government strategy to safeguard heritage sites while making them more accessible to the public.

Lands Authority CEO Robert Vella and Cleansing Division Director General Ramon Deguara also attended the site visit.
