Sliema Wanderers Win Inaugural Pre-Season Summer Cup

Sliema Wanderers won the inaugural Pre-Season Summer Cup by defeating Malta champions Ħamrun Spartans 2-1 in the final at the National Stadium.

Sliema reached the final after a penalty shoot-out victory over Floriana and took an early lead in the match when Geoffrey Acheampong scored in the eighth minute.

Ħamrun Spartans struggled to create scoring opportunities, and Sliema extended their lead early in the second half when Murilo Henrique converted a penalty following a handball by Joseph Mbong.

Although the Spartans pushed for a comeback, they only managed to score a late goal through Raphael Lopes Silva in stoppage time.

Sliema held on to their advantage and secured the win, providing them with a morale boost ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League season, where they will face Mosta in their opening match.

Puttinu Cares shared the heartwarming news of two young children who have just completed their chemotherapy for leukaemia and are thus now cancer free.

Gianluca, after 3 years and 3 months of the treatment, finally completed it and is now exiting the Rainbow Ward with a massive smile on his face.

‘You rang the bell today and shared a cake with the entire staff’, wrote Puttinu Cares.

Following Gianluca’s touching story, Ryoka’s success was announced too, as she happily rang the bell and thanked the staff for all the love and support.

Congratulations to both of these two little warriors!

Continuing their bond after the Love Island Season 2 experience, finalist Selwyn Grech, who is a driving instructor at Pro-Driving Tuition, helped other finalist Kyonne get his license.

Accompanying him for the day of test as both a mentor and friend, Selwyn was there to encourage Kyonne and help him ultimately achieve his place on the road.

Kyonne first shared a photo of the two sitting on the car with the caption, ‘not on the first try, nor the second, nor the third, but on the fourth. Thanks to Selwyn.’

A reel followed documenting the entire process, showing Kyonne excited about the test and then celebrating his achievement.

On Saturday afternoon, Bayern Munich emerged victorious in the inaugural VisitMalta Cup, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This match was organized to promote sports tourism, with both clubs boasting large, passionate fan bases across Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom and Germany.

The event highlighted Malta’s name through VisitMalta, with the game broadcast live in both countries.

The match started with Tottenham Hotspur taking an early lead through Dejan Kulusevski, who scored within the first minute.

However, Bayern Munich quickly found their rhythm and responded with three goals before halftime. Dayot Upamecano equalized in the 16th minute, followed by a goal from Serge Gnabry after 30 minutes, putting Bayern in the lead. Just before the break, veteran Thomas Müller extended Bayern’s advantage to 3-1.

Tottenham improved in the second half, with Kulusevski scoring his second goal to make it 3-2. Despite several substitutions and a spirited effort from Tottenham, the score remained unchanged, securing Bayern Munich’s win.

The team was awarded the VisitMalta Cup by Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority.

This friendly match marked the final preparation for both teams ahead of their upcoming seasons.
