Sliema Turns into an Art Festival

A wrap on the 5th edition of the Sliema Arts Festival!  The event  took place over last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and was organised by the Sliema Local Council. 

The Festival was set up at the Independence Gardens, Exiles Beach, and the Promenade, and consisted of a collection of local street art and live music as well as a variety of food stalls. 

The organisers posted on their facebook page saying that the  artworks created will be auctioned in a fundraiser in order to raise money for a charitable organisation.

The next edition of the festival is set to take place in 2026.

Men Paid More Than Women, Reveals Study

A recent study orchestrated by the National Statistics Office, has shown that in 2022 there was a discrepancy between the average basic salaries of Maltese men and of Maltese women, in favour of the men.

In the year 2022, the estimated average annual basic salary of all Maltese workers and employees was €20,989. This is the average salary of both Maltese men and women combined.

In comparison to other European countries, according to other surveys done the average annual basic salary of the entire Europe was €26,136 with the highest average in Europe being Switzerland with €85,582 and the lowest being Turkey with an average salary of only €8,968.

In 2022, the average basic salary for Maltese men stood at €22,096 whilst for Maltese women stood at €19,605, meaning there was a discrepancy of €2,464.

It was also reported that the highest annual basic salaries for both males and females were registered in the Western district of Malta, meaning places such as Attard, Rabat, Imtarfa and Siggiewi.

3 Unconscious Crew Members Rescued By Malta Air Force

the Malta Rescue Coordination Centre successfully coordinated the rescue of three crew members from a 239-meter Crude Oil Motor Tanker. The crew required urgent medical assistance after falling unconscious due to being trapped in a hydrocarbon tank.

An Armed Forces of Malta air asset, with a medical officer on board, was deployed to the area to execute the rescue mission. All casualties were safely brought to Malta and handed over to medical staff for further medical attention. This swift response highlights the efficiency and readiness of Malta’s rescue services.

Maltese Driver Shines at Global Karting Challenge in Le Mans

From July 16th to 20th, Maltese driver Nicky Gauci and his crew competed in the prestigious Rotax Max Challenge International Trophy in Le Mans, France, showcasing their skill against an international roster. The event, renowned for its competitive spirit, featured over 350 drivers from 44 nations across five continents, making it a highlight in the karting calendar.

Gauci placed 40th out of 108 drivers, an impressive feat considering the level of competition. Qualifying 49th overall, Gauci the driver started each heat in 17th position. He demonstrated consistent performance with finishes of 12th in heat one, 13th in heat two, 5th in heat three, and 11th in heat four. Unfortunately, an incident in heat five dropped him to 31st place, impacting his overall ranking. Despite this setback, Gauci secured 14th place in the super heat.

Reflecting on the event, Gauci expressed satisfaction with their overall performance, despite the challenges. Speaking to Malta Daily, Gauci highlighted the importance of maintaining a clear mind while racing and took pride in keeping the Maltese flag flying high throughout the competition.
