Aug 27 2023 Share

The Sliema Residents Association will be organising a protest on the 29th of August 2023 to address the various issues impacting residents – from trash, noise pollution and e-scooter abuse.

Taking place in Fond Grader, Sliema, the protest intends to address the growing issue of a seeming lack of enforcement when it comes to keeping the community and locality clean and safe for all those living there.

Residents are urged to attend and be the change they wish to see. Will you be attending?

Greater Flamingo Spotted At Salina Nature Reserve

Greater Flamingo Spotted At Salina Nature Reserve

Birdlife Malta, who manage the Salina Nature Reserve, shared a video of the adult Greater flamingo migration as the flock spent some days at the reserve.

The flamingo has now left Salina and continued on its migration, Birdlife Malta explained. However, they provided those lucky individuals who were at the reserve some really good views as well as excellent photo and video opportunities.

‘At this time of the year it is not unusual to see flamingos around the coast, also in small flocks. Although the bird observed at Salina was an adult, sometimes the juvenile birds in these flocks get separated from the migrating flocks and end up on beaches.’

‘Persons noting such birds are encouraged to notify BirdLife Malta on 79255697 and the Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) of the Malta Police Force on 119 so that the birds are protected and assisted if necessary.’

‘Nine years later, you’re growing magnificently. You became a prominent football player with Furjana and you already scored your first goal! We are proud of and we wish you all the best!’

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola took to social media yesterday to commemorate what would have been Daphne Caruana Galizia’s 59th birthday had she not been assassinated on October 16th, 2017.

‘Instead, we must finish what she started’, continued the EP President. ‘To expose the truth. To find justice. To hold those responsible and those who tried to cover it up accountable. To finalise a fit-for-purpose EU anti-SLAPP law.’

This comes after Malta placed second as the most challenging European countries for journalists grappling with legal harassment, following Poland. Malta registered a staggering 88 ‘strategic lawsuits against public participation’ in the last decade.

Daphne was assassinated outside her home in Bidnija when a car bomb placed in her leased Peugeot 108 exploded.
