Former Chief of Staff for the Office of the Prime Minister Keith Schembri, along with 10 others, have been denied bail for charges of money laundering, fraud, corruption and more after pleading not guilty and Schembri will spend the night at the Corradino Correctional Facility.
Various politicians and Maltese figures have reacted to what has been one of the most intense court cases in Maltese history, with Nationalist party leader Bernard Grech calling today’s court decision ‘another small step towards justice’ for the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and Simon Busuttil’s inquiry into the case.
Former PN leader and Secretary-General of the EPP Group in the European Parliament Simon Busuttil called today’s events, ‘a historic turning point for justice… and a resounding confirmation that Daphne was right’, going on to pledge the late Caruana Galizia that they are finishing what she started.
Daphne Caruana Galizia’s son Paul took to Twitter to reiterate the ironic nature of today’s events with regards to Keith Schembri’s charges.
