The Ultra Music Festival in Miami, a cornerstone event in the electronic dance music (EDM) community, was abruptly forced to close its gates early on Friday night due to severe weather conditions.
Known for drawing the biggest names in EDM to Florida, the festival is a melting pot of new music releases, timeless classics, and iconic tracks, making it one of the most eagerly awaited events in the music calendar.
The decision to shut down the event was prompted by a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service for Miami. Ultra’s official statement emphasised the safety of attendees: “For your safety, Ultra Friday is temporarily shutting down. Please calmly leave the park now.”
This unexpected turn of events has had a significant impact on both festival attendees and performers alike, with Dutch DJ Hardwell taking to Twitter to express his profound disappointment. Hardwell, who had dedicated three months of preparation for his performance, shared that the cancellation left him in tears.
Those who are following the festival online and even ones in attendance are encouraged to follow Ultra’s social media pages.
