Another loggerhead turtle nest was discovered at Għajn Tuffieħa.
‘The new nest was spotted during a routine morning patrol by the dedicated volunteers of Nature Trust – FEE Malta at Għajn Tuffieħa.’
Despite being great news, the nest was located too close to the surface and the shore.
This made it vulnerable should weather conditions become unfavourable, meaning that ERA and NTM-FEE had to delicately relocate the gas to a safer location at Ir-Ramla tal-Mixquqa.
The area has now been cordoned off to ensure the nest’s protection. People are urged to keep noise levels down and avoid trampling or shining lights near the site.
You can also report any turtle activity to ERA (2292 3500) or NTM (9999 9505).
