Second batch of donated resources sent to Turkey from Malta

The Turkish Embassy in Malta has reported that the second batch of resources from Malta has been sent to Turkey this morning.

Volunteers and citizens from across Malta and Gozo came together to collect resources and materials for a humanitarian aid package, which was sent via Turkish Airlines earlier today.

The Turkish Embassy in Malta thanked the Turkish community and Maltese and Gozitan friends for their contribution.

In the past hours, it was reported that over 21,000 deaths were registered in Turkey and Syria, with tens of thousands injured in the aftermath of a magnitude 7.8 earthquake.

Search and rescue teams from all over the world, including Malta’s own Civil Protection Department dispatch, have come together to attempt to pull any survivors from the devastating scenes of the earthquakes.

The majority of Maltese cities and villages seem to have been affected by a country-wide power cut this morning, with hundreds reporting a blackout in their residence.

With electrical problems ranging from Mellieha to Mqabba in the wake of an intense storm, Enemalta has yet to report the reason behind this major power cut.

Yesterday, Enemalta reported that its technical team assisted many clients who suffered blackouts due to damages caused by the storm. Their Customer Care team was reportedly in various cities and villages across the country, with additional workers called in to make sure that damages are communicated and assisted as quickly as possible in such adverse weather conditions.

Mere hours after Storm Helios hit the Maltese Islands with strong winds, heavy rainfall and flash flooding, the island’s cleansing and maintenance division Clean Malta started their efforts to make Malta’s streets more accessible.

With coordination from Clean Malta Director Ramon Deguara, the cleansing and maintenance team attempted to control flooded streets, swept public areas, cleaned and maintained many of Malta’s rubble walls and gave their utmost to spruce up Malta’s streets in the wake of the strong storm.

In a recent social media post, the division stated that nature shows and reveals what we, as a people, are doing wrong, and that it is our duty to keep the streets clean and dispose our our waste properly.

Popeye Village closed after large boulder falls onto park site on Thursday

The Heritage Parks Federation Ranger Unit has appealed for caution from the public after a large boulder fell onto the Popeye Village park site on Thursday.

The HPF Ranger Unite called upon the public to stay away from any cliff edges during this weather, with the team checking for any damages and dangers at the park boundary soon after.

Popeye Village has been reportedly closed until further notes, with many including the HPF Rangers Unit reiterating that the public’s safety is their own responsibility, highlighting the importance of taking safety precautions and recognising any potential risks.
