School receptionist accused of sexual abuse of security staff

Sep 20 2021 Share

A school receptionist has been arraigned on charges of sexually harassing up to 3 members of security staff which were all stationed on school premises. The accused, Joseph Borg, 61, is a Marsascala resident who plead not guilty to the charges of committing non-consensual sexual acts, harassment and requesting sexual favors from the three different individuals. With the school not identified in the proceedings, the court was told by Inspector Joseph Busuttil that the accused had been asking for sexual favors from three female staff members.

He had allegedly also rubbed himself against one of the victims. The accused’s lawyer, Robert Piscopo, requested bail but the prosecution objected, arguing that there was a big problem with the witnesses. With five witnesses in total, four having worked with him, Piscopo argued that each case had to be dealt with on its individual merits. Piscopo pointed to Borg’s clean criminal record, saying that if he were given conditions, the accused would work with them. The defence also pointed out that the accused had just been diffused from hospital but Magistrate Ian Farrugia denied bail, citing the early stage in proceedings and the fear of the accused approaching witnesses.

The Nationalist Party issued a statement highlighting how cancer patients and their families a better quality life. In a news press conference, the Opposition Party spoke about how, despite charity being a noble act, cancer treatment has become too dependent upon the goodwill of people, groups and initiatives. This has led to loss of hope among cancer patients, says the party, and worse, inefficient resources to receive the required treatment. Health spokesperson Stephen Spiteri, spokesperson for social politics and the family Claudette Buttigieg and electoral candidate Ian Vassallo brought forward a number of proposals to be undertaken by a Nationalist government in terms of cancer treatment.

The first objective listed is to give the best biological cure to the cancer patient, followed by other such measures – the allocation of necessary financial aid to give free treatment through first-line medicine; the constant updating of latest medicine with the patient not having to depend upon other entities; the foundation of a drug fund so as to avoid patients having to endure bureaucracy and; the widening of access to supportive medicines to reduce the effects of medication. The second objective entails prevention before it is all too late, followed by holistic aid to reduce the patient and family suffering.
