Swimmer Sasha Gatt has secured her second gold medal at the 2025 Games of the Small States of Europe, continuing her impressive run in the pool.

The 19-year-old clinched gold in the Women’s 400m Freestyle with a strong time of 4:17.52, adding to the gold she won earlier in the 800m Freestyle on the opening day of the competition.

Gatt’s latest victory brings Malta’s total gold medal tally at the GSSE to nine so far, contributing significantly to the national team’s overall success.

Already a two-time Olympian, Gatt represented Malta at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In Paris, she was also honoured as one of Malta’s flag bearers, a testament to her status as one of the country’s top athletes.

This year’s success marks a major step forward for Gatt, who won four medals at the 2023 GSSEs hosted in Malta — three silvers and one bronze, but no gold.

Her current achievements in the 2025 edition highlight her growth and determination to reach new heights in her swimming career.

With more events still to come, Gatt could further add to her medal haul and strengthen Malta’s position on the medal table.
