New national hotline launched for victims of crime in Malta: 116 006
Apr 22 2023 Share

On May 1, a new national hotline for victims of crime seeking legal help, emotional support or police report updates will be launched in the country. The number to call is 116 006, which was announced by Minister for Home Affairs Byron Camilleri. The hotline will be free of charge and operated by the Victim Support Agency.

The hotline will operate between the hours of 7.30am and 7.30pm, including weekends and public holidays. Minister Camilleri stated that the government wants the service to extend beyond the current 12 hours, eventually arriving at a point where they can also inform victims when the perpetrator is sentenced to prison, and when they are out for awareness reasons.

The aim of this new hotline is to provide much-needed support and assistance to victims of crime, who may be in need of immediate help or advice. With the hotline being operational for extended hours, victims can reach out for help at any time of the day, knowing that they will be able to receive the support they need.

This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve support services for victims of crime, and to ensure that they receive the help and support they need during what can be a very difficult and challenging time. With the launch of this new hotline, victims of crime will have access to the support they need, when they need it most.

The post went on to state that no one can predict earthquakes, but what is certain is that we have never experienced seismic activity such as this. It went on to state that one must understand what is happening, not in fear, but by being alert of what is taking place around them.

Notable seismic activity taking place in the Mediterranean has been felt across the Maltese Islands over the past few months, with no reports of serious consequences.

Did you feel any of the seismic activity?
