Independence Garden in Birżebbuġa is undergoing a rejuvenation project to breathe new life into this beloved community space. Minister Miriam Dalli, alongside Project Green CEO Joseph Cuschieri and Birżebbuġa Mayor Scott Camilleri, visited the site to observe ongoing works and meet the renovation team.

The 1,500 square-metre Independence Garden has been a cherished spot for leisure and relaxation, but it required significant repairs and enhancements due to aging structures. Project Green is overseeing the transformation, which includes adding new ramps for accessibility, paved areas, shading canopies, refurbishing the water feature, installing an irrigation system, planting new trees and shrubs, and other improvements.

Minister Dalli highlighted the government’s commitment to investing in new and revitalizing existing open spaces through initiatives like Project Green. This includes the recent opening of the Bengħajsa Family Park and ongoing efforts to enhance smaller gardens across residential areas for community well-being.

Architect Jessica Galea from Project Green emphasized the importance of accessibility in creating sustainable and vibrant environments that promote healthier lifestyles and connection with nature. Project Green is also involved in various environmental projects across Malta and Gozo, with plans to convert 8,000 square metres of land into new open spaces in several localities.

Earlier achievements by Project Green include Malta’s first pollinator garden in San Gwann, which educates visitors about bees and biodiversity. The agency’s initiatives aim to enhance quality of life and sustainability, contributing to a greener and more inclusive future for all. More information is available on project.green and Project Green’s social media platforms.
