Tommy Wallbank organised an 18 kilometre run last Saturday in memory of the late Rebecca Zammit Lupi, who would have celebrated her 18th birthday last Thursday.
Around 20 athletes met at 6:30 am near Surfside, running a route from Qui-Si-Sana to St Julian’s Love sign and back in two separate laps.
Accompanied by coach Fabio Spiteri and runners of all levels and ages, the runners also raised donations for the Association of Abandoned Animals to honour Becs’ love for helping animals in need.
Rebecca passed away in January of 2021 after battling cancer at the young age of just 15 years old. Following her passing, Wallbank pledged to run 1km for every €5 donated to Puttinu Cares.
He has since continued to run in memory of his late friend, starting an athletic career in the process.
For those who couldn’t make it but still wish to contribute, donations to the Association for Abandoned Animals are still open via Revolut to 77300305.
