Roberta Metsola, the European Parliament President and candidate for this year’s European Parliament election on the Nationalist Party (PN) ticket, has set a new record by securing over 80,000 votes. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 68,782 votes held by Simon Busuttil in the 2009 MEP election.
Metsola’s record-breaking performance has been an earmark of the 2024 election, showcasing strong support while the PN celebrating their best-ever performance in a European Parliament election. Despite multiple previous survey results suggesting otherwise, a reduced margin of around 7,000 votes PN and the PL has been marked.
The Labour Party’s Electoral Head has provided the following provisional first-count figures:
Roberta Metsola: 81,130
Alex Agius Saliba: 58,316
Arnold Cassola: 12,884
Daniel Attard: 10,634
Thomas Bajada: 9,601
Steve Ellul: 8,670
Peter Agius: 8,640
Claudette Abela Baldacchino: 8,284
