Roberta Metsola expresses gratitude to all medical workers as COVID-19 cases spike

As COVID-19 cases seem to be on the rise, Vice President of European Parliament Roberta Metsola took to FaceBook to express some of her thoughts. She opens her statement exclaiming her concerns about the increasing COVID-19 cases, with many rightfully concerned and scared for their well-being. She emphasised the importance of giving all those dear to us and all those in need.

She goes on to vouch for personal responsibility and taking action in initiatives to mitigate the spread. Metsola highlights the doctors, ambulance drivers and frontline workers who have been working tirelessly for over a year as the virus spreads. The post ends with her addressing these workers, telling them that they and their sacrifices are appreciated as another day of hard work approaches.

The Queen’s reaction to Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview

Buckingham Palace issued a statement in regards to the recent interview Prince Harry and his wife Meghan had with Oprah Winfrey, in which Queen Elizabeth II also expressed her concerns in regards to the issues raised. The statement read that the whole royal family is ‘saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.’

Over 400 COVID-19 cases expected today

Sources have reported that over 400 new COVID-19 cases are expected to be reported today.

This overnight case report will not only be a record-high for this year but the highest-ever number of new cases as Malta maintains a consistently-increasing rate of new COVID-19 cases.

As of yesterday March 9th, Malta had registered a total of 24,847 cases and currently has 3,035 active cases.

Times of Malta documents seized by police in Schembri-Hillman investigation

The authorities have seized documents from Times of Malta’s offices as it continues to investigate into money laundering which involve Allied Newspapers managing director, Adrian Hillman, and former OPM chief of staff, Keith Schembri. Times of Malta reported that authorities approached Progress Press to provide company documents dating to the tenure by Hillman.

As reported on Times of Malta, the company complied with the police in full when authorities asked for the company documents. The case has roots back in 2016, with Hillman resigning from his position when late Daphne Caruana Galizia flagged payments made by companies owned by Schembri.
