European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has arrived at the Naxxar Counting Hall, receiving a hero’s welcome in the midst of a major shift in mood for agents and supporters of both parties.

The MEP candidate, who has seemingly secured a record performance in this year’s election, acquiring what is expected to be double the required quota of votes, according to indications.

In comments made to the media by Bernard Grech, the Nationalist Party leader stated that the party’s targets were not only reached but surpassed, with the gap between the two parties dropping to an expected 15,000 from last election’s 42,000.

Supporters responded to a call on the Labour Party’s social media pages, heading towards the Labour Headquarters after Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Robert Abela announced a ‘solid’ MEP victory for the PL.

Early indications have shown a lead of about 15,000 votes over the PN, a significant drop from the previous election’s considerable PN-PL gap.

At the same time, significant progress was reported for the Nationalist Party. European Parliament President and Nationalist Party MEP candidate Roberta Metsola likely secured double the required quota, possibly setting a new record in European elections. Nationalist Party Secretary General Michael Piccinino stated that this year’s performance was the party’s best in a European election, with expectations of winning a third seat in the European Parliament.
