Robert & Lydia Abela apply for vaccine and encourage Maltese citizens to follow

Earlier today, Prime Minister Dr. Robert Abela took to social media to announce that he and his wife Dr. Lydia Abela have registered to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

This comes after the health authorities officially opened vaccine registration for citizens over 40, with the Prime Minister encouraging the those eligible to apply.

Dr. Abela concluded his social media post with an encouraging phrase that a vaccinated nation is strong nation, hoping to instil courage in the Maltese population as we continue to increase in vaccine numbers.

Could this busy Hamrun main road be converted into a pedestrian square?

Hamrun has become somewhat of a cultural hub in the centre of Malta, with its main road accommodating thousands of cars on a daily basis, but Hamrun mayor Christian Sammut has proposed an idea which may change the locality forever.

The mayor posted an artistic render created by Steve Compagno which envisions the area from the San Gejtanu Church to St. Paul’s Square being converted into a pedestrian square and ‘prioritising the people.’

Albeit some raised some questions about potential traffic issues, the transformation seems to be welcomed by residents of the locality and could truly breathe new life into Hamrun.

33 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 38 recoveries

Malta has registered 33 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 1,804 swab tests, while 38 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Thursday 22nd April 2021, 301,594 vaccine doses were administered of which 96,631 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 30,129 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 29,204 have recovered, 412 died and 513 are still active.

Police investigating sales of fake COVID-19 tests

The Malta Police Force has launched an investigation into the sale and distribution of fake COVID-19 tests to people wanting to go back to their country.

It was revealed that various falsification methods were being utilised, amongst them cases of forging old certificates, with criminal circles selling them.

Over the past few months, the Police took multiple people to court on the matter, amongst them 26-year-old Euredice Annelatt Olijfveld who plead guilty for trying to leave Malta via a false COVID-19 certificate.

The person in question was fined €500.
