Robert Downey Jr surprised fans at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H panel by revealing he’ll play Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday.” The reveal came after a group of masked figures took the stage, with Downey Jr dramatically unmasking himself and saying, “I like playing complicated characters,” to loud cheers.
The Russo brothers are set to direct “Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” The panel also featured a lively Deadpool choir, celebrating the success of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which Marvel President Kevin Feige announced as the highest-grossing R-rated film ever. The film is expected to earn between $175 million and $185 million in its opening weekend.
Anthony Mackie, star of “Captain America: Brave New World,” discussed his take on the superhero, noting that his Captain America is more cerebral and thoughtful compared to Chris Evans’s version. Harrison Ford, taking over the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt, joined the cast on stage. David Harbour also appeared in full Red Guardian costume to promote “Thunderbolts,” a film about a team of anti-heroes.
The panel revealed that Galactus will be the main villain in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” adding another major threat to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
