GAVI is the global alliance that provides life-saving vaccines, especially for children and vulnerable populations.
Speaking at the event, held in partnership with the European Commission and the Gates Foundation, Prime Minister Robert Abela spoke about the importance of international cooperation.
He cited the COVID-19 pandemic as a key example, noting that close collaboration across Europe had saved countless lives.
Addressing European leaders, Prime Minister Abela said that Malta has a longstanding commitment to equal access to healthcare and medicines, regardless of geography.
He warned that during times of geopolitical uncertainty, inequalities in access to medicine tend to increase, which makes GAVI’s work even more essential.
