A children’s football match last Sunday saw police officers, an ambulance and the Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) having to get involved.
One father reportedly grabbed a large rock to attack another parent during the fight which broke out in the Kordin football ground.
The fight started after two players were sent off by the referee. Two parents came to blows at around the 27 minute mark when the referee kicked out a Valletta player for using vulgar language.
TVM reported that another player approached the referee aggressively to contest the decision as other players held him back. The crowd also reportedly got riled up, with one parent assisting the game insulting the referee before starting to threaten him.
The fight began after the chaos, with one man reportedly approaching the altercation with a large rock. Two parents entered the pitch and continued to fight and issue threats.
The Rapid Intervention Unit and police officers from District Police calmed the scene down. The match resumed soon after, with the referee being escorted out by police officers.
